obligatory new years resolutions post
Seriously I think I make these resolutions and just end up resolving to break them. But not this year! Inspired by this post on HelloGiggles.com (my new favorite site BTW), I’m going to TRY and make a more do-able resolutions list.
1. drink more water - originally this was going to be don’t drink soda, but I did say that this was going to be a do-able list right? So I changed it to drink more water. It’s good for you, makes you full (sometimes), and it has no calories!
2. try to save money - I know my friends who know me well will probably just laugh at this cos I ♥ to shop, but I am genuinely going to try to save money. I thought having this steady, full time job would be great for me financially, but my tastes just got a little more expensiver, and I didn’t think twice about some purchases. But the end of the year kicked my ass financially, with my car getting hit (I didn’t even fix that yet, damn you MetLife!), check engine light on, DMV registration renewal… etc on top of all the holiday shopping… I’m broke! I’ve learned that it’s good to have money saved for such situations like this… plus I’m 23, turning 24 next year and I should always have $$$ in the bank! I also really want to travel, and you can’t do that as a broke girl!
3. shop less - kind of a carryover from the last resolution… but I really need to stop shopping. Laugh all you want! But… I have a lot of clothes, and make up, and purses, cheap jewelry… I don’t need anymore, and I don’t have space for any of it! So unless I get my own place with a crapload of storage.. I need to cutback on the spending, and need to decide if I REALLY REALLY need this. Need vs. Want. C’mon Teresa, you can do this! I’ll let myself buy something a ‘want’ item once a month. I need someone to regulate this.
4. eat healthier/better - i love food! I don’t understand anorexics because I can’t imagine not eating! Eat out just once a week, except for special occasions like holidays and birthdays! This will make my wallet fatter, and hopefully my waistline smaller. & It’s better not to deprive yourself of what you want to eat (la vics anyone?) but to eat in moderation and good portions!
5. go to gym more frequently - I have a gym membership. THat’s 30 bucks a month wasted if I don’t go. I told myself that I’d get this membership cos paying for it will motivate me to go. wrong. I know i’m going to dread this resolution because for the next 3 months all the ‘lose weight resolutioners’ will be hogging up my spot on the elliptical. But need to go! If I don’t go at least 15/30 days… I should consider terminating my gym membership and risk getting morbidly obese.
6. fix my windshield -it’s been forever. this needs to get done in 2012!
7. purse rotation - i’m those girls who when I get a new purse, all my other bags just disappeared into Narnia. THey never get used again. Get rid of the bags, or switch them up from time to time.
8. discover new bands/music - self explanatory
9. learn to play the guitar - note I didn’t say play it well. But we can try.
10. love my dog more - the bunnies get a lot of my attention and I can tell he feels neglected at times. He’s a bit needy and attention-whorey but I know that it’s just because he loves me. I love him a lot but that’s just an emotion I feel and he doesn’t know that unless I got some actions! I’m actually really thankful to have him.
11. go back to school - it’s time. it really is. I love learning! My brain feels like mush cos I’m not learning. I just hate finals. Pretty sure I know what I want to do now.
12. keep my car clean & my room semi-organized - this one is definitely cliche and a stretch, but again. I’m getting old. I need to be more together. Organization and me need to become friends. It’s not a choice, more like an arranged marriage. first clean my car, and hopefully my life will follow! :)
13. spend less time wasting my life away on the internet - i love the internet. It’s so handy for learning new things, or youtubing how to use a waiter’s corkscrew or how to tie a tie. But be real, most of time I’m scrolling through tumblr, online shopping and looking at cute animals online. I don’t benefit from these things! And my day is just wasted.
14. more family gatherings - especially ones that are more non 21+ friendly. We don’t realize how lucky we are to have family close by, and are around the same age. I definitely take this for granted. Plus if he comes along, less drinking! Which is a good and bad thing.
15. read more
16. be less short-tempered with my mom - It’s tough. And this is probably my hardest resolution. But I know she works hard and is stressed out. It’s been rough the past few years for all of us, but I’m sure it’s the worst for my mom. It’s hard not to be short with her because our personalities definitely clash, and we have very different outlooks on how things should be. But i will try try try to help out around the house more and not fight as much.
ok after looking over this list, I’d say I pretty much failed at making this list do-able. Well.. some of them are! At least I tried.
My biggest resolution? Just to be happy :) ! At the end of 2012, if I can say that, then it’ll be a success.
